Pope Leo grants Eastern Synods the faculty to remove Patriarchs

With an Apostolic Letter issued motu proprio on 29 August, Pope Leo XIV provides the Synods of Bishops of Eastern Catholic Churches the faculty to remove their respective Patriarchs in order โ€œto restore the wounded communion, even by removing him from office for grave causeโ€, in the event their โ€œbondโ€ is โ€œirreparably compromised.โ€ In such an event, the Roman Pontiff must grant assent to the Synodโ€™s judgment.

The adventure of the translation of the relics of St Monica

The mortal remains of Saint Monica, the mother of St Augustine, were discovered near the church of Santโ€™Aurea, close to the ruins of Romeโ€™s ancient river port of Ostia, in the 15th century. Transferred to the capital by the Augustinian friars with the permission of Pope Martin V, they are now enshrined in the Roman basilica of St Augustine in Campo Marzio, in a special chapel.
